Kalamazoo College is offering a multi-day career trek for two groups of highly motivated sophomores and juniors to travel to Washington DC over spring break to meet with alumni who work at the various intersections of law, government, policy-making, research, science and/or public service. Students will have the opportunity to meet with alumni and other professionals who work for such organizations as the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the US Food and Drug Administration, O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health at Georgetown University, as well as in roles in and around law and Capitol Hill.
Social Sciences and Humanities Track: Designed primarily for students studying the social sciences or humanities, this track will focus on careers in law, government, research, public policy and public service. Faculty partner: Jennifer Einspahr, political science
Natural Sciences Track: Designed primarily for students studying the natural sciences, this track will focus on careers in science, policy and law. Faculty partner: Regina Stevens-Truss, chemistry
K to the Capital is made possible by the generosity and initiative of K College alumni. The program will arrange and pay for round-trip flights from Michigan to Washington DC, lodging and on-the-ground transportation in the area, as well as dinners. Students will cover their own breakfasts, lunches, and other costs, such as airport parking. Please contact Valerie Miller if this poses undue financial hardship.
Participants must attend a series of preparatory meetings in February and March.
Apply for K to the Capital 2019 Participant “job” via Handshake. Applications open Friday, January 11, 2019.
