At Kalamazoo College, we value the relationships we have with our alumni and employer partners, and we strive to provide valuable networking and professional development opportunities for our students. In order to maintain these partnerships and ensure the success of future students, we ask that you honor your commitments and communicate promptly regarding any changes in your participation.
Failure to Communicate or Participate: Students who do not show up for scheduled appointments, job shadows, or internships, or who fail to maintain communication with their alumni or employer matches, will be considered as “ghosting” the program. This behavior negatively impacts our ability to cultivate strong relationships with alumni and employers and can affect the opportunities available to other students.
Consequences of ghosting may include:
- Ineligibility for Future Programs: Students who fail to engage in programs without appropriate communication or fail to fulfill commitments may be restricted from participating in future opportunities.
- Impact on Program Participation: Depending on the nature of the situation, repeated failures to communicate or follow through may also affect eligibility for one-on-one appointments or other services offered by the CCPD.
Professionalism and Communication Expectations: We understand that as students, you are still developing the skills necessary for professional communication. In the workplace, timely and clear communication—especially via email—is a vital part of building and maintaining relationships. While we recognize that these expectations may not always be familiar, it is essential to begin practicing them now in order to prepare for future success in your career.
We understand that circumstances can arise that prevent participation (including sickness), and we ask that you communicate any issues or conflicts as early as possible. If you are unable to fulfill a commitment, please contact us in advance so we can assist with rescheduling or finding an alternative solution.
By participating in these programs, you are not only representing yourself but also Kalamazoo College. Your actions reflect on the reputation of our community, and we rely on your professionalism to ensure that future students have access to the same opportunities.
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to maintaining the integrity of our program.
